Gas Works Park and the Fremont Troll

Wow, the first week of school is over already! I can't believe it. I'm enjoying my classes so far, and I'm also enjoying the time I've had to start exploring Seattle. I decided to make my first outing to Gas Works Park and the Fremont Troll.

Both Gas Works Park and The Troll are in the neighborhood of Fremont, which is just a short trip from the Seattle Pacific Univeristy. I have a bike here is Seattle, so I decided to ride that over to the park.

Gas Works Park is an amazing place; it's located on the site of a former gasification plant and contains the remnants of the sole remaining coal gasification plant in the US. You can read more about it here. It also has some beautiful views of Seattle, from the Capitol Hill neighborhood, to Downtown Seattle, Seattle Center and Queen Anne. I went in the daytime by myself, and also went with my residence hall floor today at dusk.

I also visited the Fremont Troll, which is a piece of public art located under the Fremont end of the Aurora Bridge. You can read about it here.

I think the Troll is really cool; a unique and interesting way to solve a growing problem in the neighborhood. It was also featured in a favorite film of mine 10 Things I Hate About You.

So far, my adventures in Seattle have been interesting and exciting. I explored more of Fremont today and visited an awesome cupcake store I will write about later.
